In Memory of Gerry "Grandma" McKelvey
September 30, 1941 - April 14, 1997

WE MISS YOU

In April of 1997 my mother-in-law and my son's grandmother was taken from us by the hands of a man, that called himself her friend. I will never be able to forgive him, for taking her away from us. Gerry took me in as if I was her daughter when I first moved to the United States. She tried to make it as easy as possible for me and her grandson to get adjusted to a life here in the United States, far away from my family in Germany. It's been a over year but the pain hasn't gone away. The man who did this to her and  us, Glen Edward Hertel of Grand Junction, Colorado, is now in jail.

He was sentenced to 48 years for 2nd degree murder. He could be out in a much shorter time, we hope that they will not release him. He deserves to spend the rest of his life in jail.  My relationship with her wasn't always an easy one, we had quite different opinions on love, marriage, childcare and religion - but I know she meant good and I was just being a typical "daughter" - thought I knew it all better - now we'll never get to smile about it in later years. I miss you Gerry!

Footprints on the Heart

Some people come into our lives and quickly go.
Some people move our souls to dance
They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom.

Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon
They stay in our lives  for awhile leave footprints on our hearts
And we are never ever the same.
